Children make their own accordion books to help them read some the key words from 'Brown Owl's Birthday Tea' by Rachel Schmidlechner and Nadja Grace Bodner.The books are very simple to make. Simply cut off the edges, fold along the middle line and then fold like a fan. Next colour the pictures, cut them out and stick them above the correct word.TIP: The colouring of the picture sheets can also be carried out as a colour dictation.Alternatively children can read the words and draw their own pictures.Children can take the accordion books home and show off their reading skills.Have fun reading and rhyming with Brown Owl!If you'd like to know more about the rhyming picture book the words are taken from, you can check out some sample pages here.

Practise reading and writing key words from the rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl's Birthday Tea' by Rachel Schmidlechner and Nadja Grace Bodner.These wordmats can be used in lots of different ways1) I spy with my little eye … Fox! (children point at Fox or place their rubber on it, for example). This can also be done as pairwork.2) colour dictation - I spy with my little eye … a green frog!3) bingo - each child chooses three pictures and places something on them, e.g. counters/glass nuggets. The teacher draws the picture cards at random and once their three have been called, the children shout 'Bingo!'.This can also be played in groups with a bingo master for each group.4) hide the wordcards / flashcards around the room and the children label the pictures themselves.
