Summer: describing pictures - for 7th-8th grade English students //

This resource includes a picture about the summer, as well as an activity
(3 differentiated versions).
It is a great opportunity for students to learn the language structures used to describe a picture, while reviewing summer vocabulary.

There are several ways you can use this picture. Below I will make a suggestion, but please bear in mind that each class is different, and this suggestion may or may not work with your students. If not, you can choose another way of using this resource, that makes more sense to your class.
I suggest projecting the picture on the board and have the students comment on it. You can ask questions to guide them, and write relevant vocabulary that comes up on the board .
Example:
What's the weather like?
How many towels can you see in the sand?
Which animals can you see?
What are the people in the water doing?
After this, and depending on the students' level, you can choose either activity 1 or 2. Students solve the exercise. When they are done, the teacher corrects it with the whole class and clarifies any doubt that might come up.
Finally, you can ask students to write down a small text describing the picture. This will be an opportunity to consolidate the vocabulary and structures that they learnt before.
They can do this individually, in pairs or in small groups.
