Can students get good grades — and still struggle to use what they know in the real world?
This complete B2–C1 EFL lesson uses the newly released PISA 2025 results for Greece as the starting point for a much bigger question: What does it actually mean to learn something?
Rather than simply reading about PISA, students experience the difference between remembering knowledge and transferring it to a new situation.
The lesson takes learners through a carefully connected sequence:
EXPERIENCE → NOTICE → READ → APPLY → DISCUSS → TRANSFER
Students will:
• tackle an unfamiliar 60-second problem-solving challenge
• discover the concept of knowledge transfer
• read an accessible real-world text based on PISA 2025 data
• distinguish between facts, reasonable conclusions and unsupported claims
• learn and reuse academic vocabulary such as proficiency, evidence, reasoning, retrieve, baseline and transfer
• apply existing knowledge to new language, data and everyday-life problems
• explore the relationship between grades, knowledge and real ability
• participate in a scaffolded Four Corners debate
• redesign a traditional school exercise so that it requires genuine thinking
• write a 180–220 word discussion response
The activities deliberately build on one another, so students have the ideas, evidence and language they need before they are asked to speak or write.

This is not a lesson about whether students are “good” or “bad” at school.
It asks something much more interesting:
If I know something, can I actually use it when nobody tells me what to do?Το υλικό αυτό μεταφορτώθηκε πρόσφατα. Ο συγγραφέας δεν έχει παράσχει ακόμη περιγραφή.
