Use these game cards to practise key words from the rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl and the Bee Hive', by Rachel Schmidlechner and Nadja Grace Bodner.
There are two sets with 24 key words.
Set 1 is for readers, set 2 for non-readers.
How to play:
1) shuffle the cards
2) hand out one card to each pupil (some can have two cards if necessary)
3) the child with the first card begins: "I have got the first card. Who has got Busy Lizzy?"
4) The child with Busy Lizzy on their card carries on: "I have got Busy Lizzy. Who has got the sun?"
and so it goes on until the last card is played.
Once the children have got the hang of the game, they get faster and faster. You can turn it into a competition by timing them each round they play and seeing if they can improve on their record.
Non-readers just say what they have on their card in a simplified form: e.g. Busy Lizzy is here! Where is the sun? The sun is here! Where is Brown Owl?
