This fun clapping rhyme is a variation on the well-known children's song 'A sailor went to sea, sea, sea!'
See how it's done here in the original version:
A Sailor Went to Sea - Hand Clap Warm Up Song - YouTube
I have adapted the text to make it about Brown Owl, the star of my 'Read and Rhyme with Brown Owl' picture books. It is a nice mutlisensory activity to practise key seaside words. It can also be used in conjunction with my book 'Brown Owl at the Seashore.'
Once the children get the hang of the lyrics, they can change the word 'shark' for another seaside item. E.g. starfish, crab, dolphin ...
Brown Owl went to sea, sea, sea,
To see what he could see, see, see.
But all that he could see, see, see,
Was a shark / starfish / shipwreck in the deep blue sea, sea, sea!
This rhyme is a good opportunity to talk about homophones (sea/see). I have included two flashcards to show the difference in spelling.
I have also included an A4 full colour version to hang up in the English corner.
Have fun reading and rhyming with Brown Owl!
N.B. The rhyme is also included in the Seashore workbook/worksheets ID: 405686
