This is an English version of my original worksheet on the adaptive immune system.

This worksheet was designed for intermediate students. It allows them to understand the process of the adaptive immune response on a basic level while giving them a mental model that provides easier access to the cellular mechanisms.

Prior to this lesson, the students should have dealt with immune cells (macrophages, granulocytes, lymphocytes etc.) as well as the innate immune response.

Recommended procedure:

Start by re-activating the process of the innate immune response

Student activity: task 1 on the worksheet, discuss in class afterwards

Teacher presentation: process of adaptive immune responsive on the cellular level 

Transfer/homework: task 2 on the worksheet

Task 3 can be used to conclude the topic, as soon as the role of memory cells has been discussed.
