Brown Owl – A Song Before the Story

The song is based on 'Brown Owl', the first book in my rhyming picture book series ‘Read and Rhyme with Brown Owl’.

In this first book children meet Brown Owl’s friends and family for the first time. There’s Mum, Dad, Little Jean, Granny Grace, Grampy Grump, Cat, Dog and Fox.

The song is intended as an introduction to your lessons with Brown Owl, regardless which book in the series you are working on. In each of the books, children are encouraged to read, rhyme and play with Brown Owl.

As the song is playing, encourage children to accompany it with actions. Genny's voice is clear and easy to understand. The lyrics are simple and catchy, and the children will be singing along in no time.

You can find an illustrated video of the song on YouTube.

Children will recognise illustrations from the book in the song video. Once the children know the story, you could also pause the video and ask the children who they can see. E.g. It’s Cat in a hat! It’s Mum in the sun! It’s Granny Grace!

This resource includes a song sheet for the children, guitar chords for the teacher and a free colouring page.

We hope you have fun singing and teaching English with Brown Owl!
