Descrizione

The aim of the game is to practise asking and answering questions in the past continuous tense, including giving correct short answers.

This is a version of the classic card game Go Fish, where students try to find pairs of identical cards and collect as many pairs as possible.

Instructions:

  1. The teacher should print two copies of the cards.
  2. Shuffle the cards and deal five cards to each student (seven in small groups, three in larger groups).
  3. Place the remaining cards face down in a pile in the centre of the table.
  4. Students take turns asking classmates for cards. All questions should be in the past continuous tense, as written on the card (e.g. Was Samuel flying a kite while his parents were sunbathing?).
  5. If the classmate has the matching card, they give it to the asker and provide the correct short answer (e.g. Yes, he was).
  6. If they do not have the card, they give the negative short answer (e.g. No, he wasn’t). The other classmates then say “Go Fish!”, and the student who asked the question draws one card from the pile.
  7. The game continues until all the cards have been paired.
  8. The student with the most pairs at the end is the winner.
