A warmer sea means more than a longer swimming season. But what exactly can it change?

When the Sea Stays Warm is a ready-to-teach B2–C1 EFL lesson that uses the warming Mediterranean to develop English, climate literacy and critical thinking.

Students explore how unusually warm seawater may be connected to warmer nights, humidity, changing marine ecosystems, species movement and extreme weather — while learning an equally important skill: how to talk about science without exaggerating what the evidence actually tells us.

Rather than another generic “climate change” worksheet, students investigate cause, contribution and consequence, build Mediterranean chain reactions, evaluate sensational climate headlines and take part in a Greece 2050 stakeholder challenge.

They also practise useful language such as marine ecosystem, biodiversity, prolonged, intensify, disrupt, humidity, contribute to and under the right conditions.
