I find the New Year the perfect time to teach children the months in English. And if you want to approach this topic with a bit of a twist, my third book, “Brown Owl's Birthday Tea” is a great steppingstone to it.
We all know how children love talking about their birthdays! , after all. I have created flashcards, a birthday survey activity and games to practise the months. There is also a rhyme that helps children to remember the order of the months.
Children can practise reading and writing the months with my differentiated wordsearches, wordmats and cut & stick activity.
Watch me using the birthday rhyme here in my Instagram reel: months rhyme

Have fun reading and rhyming with Brown Owl!
Playing a round of 'I have got ... Who has got ... ?' helps children to remember the order of the months in English. It also practises reading, speaking and listening skills, as they have to listen out for the picture on their game card and read the question out loud that is on it.HOW TO PLAY:Shuffle the cards and hand out one to each player. The player with the first card begins:I have got the first card. Who has got the snowman? The player with the snowman card continues.I have got the snowman. Who has got January? The player with the January card continues. I have got January. Who has got the heart? The game continues until you reach December. This is the last card.Once everyone has got the hang of it, you can time the round and see if they can improve their speed, whilst still maintainin fluency and clear speaking. If you'd like to spend more time on the topic, check out my other games & worksheets based on the months.I hope you have fun reading, rhyming and teaching English with Brown Owl!
