Have you ever heard of a cinquain (pronounced 'sin-cane') poem before?It's a simple form of poetry that can be adapted to many topics.I have created this resource to describe animals and objects seen at the zoo.A cinquain is made up of 11 words and 5 lines.The 1st line is a colour (1 word)The 2nd line is the animal or thing seen at the zoo (2 words)The 3rd line is where the animal/thing is (3 words)The 4th line describes what you can do with it (4 words)The 5th line is an adjective to describe it (1 word)I really like this activity as firstly, it encourages children to be creative with language and secondly, it revises colours, animals, prepositions and adjectives at the same time.N.B. This BINGO game is a great way to practise and consolidate vocabulary from my rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl at the Zoo'.It can be played as a class or in small groups with a quizmaster.I have included a set of picture/word cards for the quizmaster to draw at random. If you print two sets, they can also be used as a game of pairs too.If someone gets three pictures in a row, they shout LINE!If they get all nine pictures, they shout BINGO!I like to embed each word in a sentence so that the children are exposed to as much language as possible. E.g. I can see monkeys at the zoo. Lions are roaring at the zoo. Story walks are a great way to practise and improve reading skills.This story walk revisits the animals Brown Owl meets in the rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl at the Zoo'.It's a sunny day! Let's go to the zoo!Cat sees a panda eating bamboo! etc.HOW TO USE THE ACTIVITY:1) learn the key words from the story.
