Simon Says is a popular total physical game that helps children to internalise language by connecting it to an action.
Furthermore, they have to listen carefully to see if they should do the action or not.
For example, if the teacher says: "Simon says, you are eating an ice cream", the children should demonstrate this with an action.
If however, the teacher only says: "You are eating an ice cream!", the children should stand still. Anyone who does the action is out and has to sit down.
Before playing the game, practise the language and actions with the children.
The game cards also have pictures on them, which aid comprehension.
Once children get the hang of the game, a pupil can come out and be a teacher clone.
The game can also be played in small groups.
The vocabulary I have chosen for this summer edition comes up in my rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl at the Seashore'.
