Materials needed:

    • Game (printed)
    • Playing cards (printed and cut)
    • Game pieces
    • Dice

    How to play:

The students are divided into small groups (3 to 4 children). Each student receives a game piece and places it on the starting space. The youngest student starts and gets to throw the dice first. Then, another player draws a card and reads the question out loud. If the question is answered correctly by the player, the game piece may move forward the number of spaces rolled. However, if the question is answered incorrectly, the character must remain on their space and wait until the next round. The student who finishes first wins.

    USA - English Bundle

USA - English BundleThe material about the "USA" is for intermediate English learners and primarily serves to train reading skills, to expand vocabulary (especially on the subject of the USA) and to acquire knowledge about the United States of America. Communicative skills are also trained, especially when working in small groups or groups of two. The material is particularly suitable for projects, open learning, but also for regular classes.Learning goals: The students can extract information from the reading texts for the respective states. The students can answer questions on the readings about the USA. Students know where certain US states are located on the map. The students know the most important facts about certain USA states (capital, flag, sights, etc.) Students can talk about certain states in English. The students can understand and actively use new vocabulary from the texts on the USA states. Students can argue what they like and dislike about the US states they are discussing. Students can compose an email in English to a friend about the U.S. states covered. The students can get a general impression of the USA.   For every U.S. state, the following is included:1. Fact Sheets (reading texts with map, facts, pictures and important vocabulary) 2. Worksheet with solution 3. Conversation board game 4. Domino5.Fact Posters (with the most important information about the states)In addition to the individual states, there are a few additional texts, e.g. for the USA in general, Washington, D.C. or Route 66.The material also contains a writing task that completes the topic. In it, the students should write an e-mail to a friend and report on their trip and impressions of the USA.Additionally, there is a differentiated board game with quiz questions, in which questions on the USA are asked. The game is particularly suitable when faster students finish earlier and want to be occupied in a meaningful way. Possible uses:Open learning, but also a project week is particularly suitable as possible uses. Alternatively, the readings can also be used as individual reading texts in the classroom.Which texts/states are used can be selected individually. For example, the students could choose the texts themselves or they are assigned them by the teacher. In addition, not every state has to be worked on by every student. The students can also work on a state in small groups or just in groups of two. At the end, the individual groups present their state to the whole class. METHOD FOR A ROAD TRIP:One method would be a road trip that would take the students through some U.S. states. The road trip looks like this:1. The teacher prepares the material for some states. Stations for the individual states are prepared in class. The fact cards are attached to the walls of each station or placed on the tables. The reading texts and worksheets should be found at each station. The domino can also be added and is particularly useful for individual work. The Conversation Board Game for each state is particularly useful for partner work.2. Each student should create a portfolio on the USA during the road trip. For this, each student needs a folder with the cover sheet, table of contents and vocabulary sheet, which are enclosed.3. After the teacher has discussed the process with the group, the students move from station to station. At each station, the texts should be read and the worksheets worked on. The answers are then compared with the answer sheet. With the help of the fact posters, the students can better find the most important information.4. Following the worksheet, either the Domino or Conversation Board Game can be played. (The texts should definitely be read beforehand so that the students can answer the questions!)5. After the students have “visited” a few states, they write an email to a friend and tell them about their road trip. For this, the students use their portfolio as an aid to share their route and the newly acquired knowledge with their friends.6. At the end, students should have a portfolio of materials related to the USA states they have "visited". The portfolio can also be designed individually by the students.
