This is a package for a 90-minute lesson that I developed and implemented during my internship in January 2021. The original target group was a class with a social studies major (year 10). My main goal was to start a conversation with my students about looking after ourselves and practicing self-care during lockdown. I wanted to add a humorous element as to not make the lesson too serious. Furthermore, students can practice and develop their listening comprehension skills as well as their audiovisual comprehension skills. After a communicative warm-up, students work on a comedic YouTube clip as well as an audio recording on self-care during the pandemic. As a post-listening tasks, students are asked to conceptualiase their own self-care practices. The whole lesson follows a pre-listening, while-listening, post-listening structure.
For this lesson, I drew on experiences and knowledge from my happiness teacher training. I wanted to create a lesson that would not only help students develop their English skills but also their socio-emotional skills.
