This worksheet helps students understand how commas are used when joining two complete ideas with coordinating conjunctions.
Students learn the punctuation rule using the well-known acronym FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so). Through guided activities, they discover when a comma is needed before a conjunction and how to test whether both parts of a sentence are complete.
The worksheet introduces the Split Test, a simple strategy that allows students to check whether two clauses can stand alone as sentences. After practicing with example sentences, students write their own sentence using a coordinating conjunction correctly.
The material works well as a short grammar lesson, editing practice, or review activity for compound sentences.
