Learning Objectives
Step 1: Brainstorming
a) Superpowers
Self-awareness
First, students should think about what their own superpowers might be. This activity is designed to promote self-love. Additionally, examples of what superpowers could be will be shared.
Other's perception
Next, each student should attach a blank piece of paper to their back with tape. The task is for their classmates to write positive characteristics on their backs or other kind words they admire about the person. This exercise aims to strengthen self-confidence as well as foster social skills and classroom unity. Once each student has at least three or four positive points written on their paper, they can remove it and read what their classmates appreciate about them. I can promise you, the kids' eyes will shine. Feel free to join in—who doesn’t enjoy giving and receiving compliments? 😊
b) Costume Design
With their own and others’ ideas about superpowers, students now have enough inspiration to decide which 2-3 superpowers their superhero will have. These should also be visible in their costume, e.g., a lightning bolt for speed or animal motifs if they can talk to animals. Let the creativity flow! To collect ideas, a mind map (costume cuts, accessories, colors, patterns…) should be created.
c) Superhero World
Lastly, students should think about which world their superhero would live in (a flower meadow, the city, another planet, etc.).
d) Idea Exchange
Once everyone has collected their ideas, students should exchange them. Maybe someone has additional ideas or suggestions. Again, this art project also aims to strengthen the classroom community.
Step 2: Get to Work: Bringing your heroine/ hero to life
Now it’s time to get creative! Students should first create their superhero and then design the superhero world. The material includes more detailed instructions on size proportions. To add a 3D effect, students can also create Witch’s Ladders to make their superheroes fly!
Step 3: Present Your Work
Finally, all the artworks should be displayed, presented, and appreciated. At the end, students should vote anonymously for their favorite piece. The winner will receive a small prize from me.
