Lesson focus: Evaluating Online Sources, fact-checking and internet safety.

Students learn about the important of evaluating and fact-checking information they come across online. The pack looks at how students can protect themselves from falling for bad actors.

Activities include: warm up game, CRAAP Test for evaluating sources. Example texts (misleading headlines, false/misleading statistics, emotional language). Creating their own fake news stories – leading to a game in which the other students have to debunk the story. Debunking a real news story. Writing assignment – reverse fact check (students rewrite a poorly sourced or misleading article).
