Playing games in English lessons is a great way to raise participation levels whilst revising/practising key words. Furthermore, if children are having fun, they are more likely to remember the vocabulary.
These game cards cover common topics covered at primary school (days of the week, months, hobbies, animals etc) as well as some rhyming words from my 'Read and Rhyme with Brown Owl' picture books.
This game can be used as a warm-up, filler or independent-learning activity.
How to play:
1) Read what is on the card: E.g. Give me 5 colours!
2) Children then give you their suggestions. If the colour is on the card, they get a point.
Why not divide the class into teams and see who has the most points at the end? Remember to take it in turns when giving answers.
TIP: play in groups with a quizmaster
3) Once all 5 words on the card have been guessed, draw another card.
TIP: If children can't guess some answers, give them clues, e.g. give me 5 pizza toppings - it's sweet, it's yellow, it's a fruit ... Well done! It's pineapple!
Have fun reading and rhyming with Brown Owl!
