If you stimulate an emotional reaction, you'll get kids talking! We want them communicating and using English in an authentic context.
This STOP&SWAP activity combines the topic of feelings with well-known key words from my series of rhyming picture books.
I tried to keep the language as simple as possible, i.e. I used the same question structure and stuck to a few common verbs:
How do you feel when you see/eat/open/swim/go ...?
How to play:
Each kid gets a card Ring a bell/play music, the kids walk around the room Ring a bell/stop the music. Kids find a partner, ask each other the questions on their cards, give an answer & swap cards. Ring a bell/play music again. Repeat the process.N.B. It is important that they can READ what is on their card, so you will need to spend a bit of time focusing on the question (How do you feel when …). Perhaps use the cards as a teacher-led activity first.
It might take a while for them to get the hang of the game, but it is worth presevering. It gets the kids actively using English in an authentic context.
N.B. The borders of the cards are colour-coded to denote which book the vocab has been taken from. The red cards contain general vocab.
I hope you have fun learning English with Brown Owl!
