What is really happening in today’s classrooms? Have young people lost their limits—or have families, schools, technology and society all helped create a much more complicated problem?
This thought-provoking B2–C1 EFL lesson invites students to investigate modern classroom behaviour without simply blaming “young people today.” Using a realistic classroom incident, current evidence and carefully structured discussion tasks, learners examine student responsibility, family boundaries, social media, phone distraction, teacher authority, school support and the rights of quieter pupils who genuinely want to learn.
Students will:
• distinguish between behaviour, interpretation and possible causes
• explore what has genuinely changed—and what adults have always complained about
• examine evidence about digital distraction and problematic social-media use
• understand the difference between authority and authoritarianism, consequences and punishment, explanations and excuses
• distribute responsibility among students, families, teachers, school leaders, governments and technology companies
• design a firm but fair school behaviour policy
• develop balanced arguments through discussion, debate and writing
The pack includes accessible vocabulary support, speaking frames, evidence-based tasks, a responsibility challenge, policy-design activities, writing choices, teacher guidance and answer notes.
