The wordmats can be used in lots of different ways:

1) I spy with my little eye … an Easter basket! (children point at the Easter basket or place their rubber on it, for example).  This can also be done as pairwork.

2) colour dictation - I spy with my little eye … purple and pink Easter eggs!

3) bingo - each child chooses three pictures and places something on them, e.g. counters/glass nuggets.  The teacher draws the picture cards at random and once their three have been called, the children shout 'Bingo!'.

This can also be played in groups with a bingo master for each group.

4) hide the wordcards / flashcards around the room and the children label the pictures themselves = copy-writing

Differentiation: they use a pencil to write the words how they think they are spelt and then find the word cards in the room to check their work.
