Use these finger puppets to play vocabulary games and/or retell one of the 'Read and Rhyme with Brown Owl' stories, by Rachel Schmidlechner and Nadja Grace Bodner.
Here are a few ideas:
- The teacher says word, the pupils hold up the correct finger puppet
- The pupils listen to the story and hold up the correct finger puppet when it comes up in the story
- The teacher describes a finger puppet (e.g. four legs, grey, big) and the pupils hold up the correct one
- The teacher says a rhyming word, the pupils hold the correct one, e.g. hat - Cat!
- Children use the finger puppets re-enact their favourite scence(s) from one of the stories.
- Children come up with their own stories, using the key words on the finger puppets.
- The sheet can even be used for a game of OXO before the finger puppets are cut out. Simply hand out glass nuggets in two different colours and it becomes a speaking activity, e.g. It's a cat / I can see an elephant at the zoo / This is Brown Owl's birthday cake / I can hear a seagull etc.
Have fun reading and rhyming with Brown Owl!
