Have you ever heard of a cinquain (pronounced 'sin-cane') poem before?

It's a simple form of poetry that can be adapted to many topics.

I have created this resource to describe animals and objects seen at the zoo.

A cinquain is made up of 11 words and 5 lines.

The 1st line is a colour (1 word)

The 2nd line is the animal or thing seen at the zoo (2 words)

The 3rd line is where the animal/thing is (3 words)

The 4th line describes what you can do with it (4 words)

The 5th line is an adjective to describe it (1 word)

I really like this activity as firstly, it encourages children to be creative with language and secondly, it revises colours, animals, prepositions and adjectives at the same time.

N.B. The examples I use in the worksheets are based on scenes from my rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl at the Zoo'.
