Play a round of SIMON SAYS to practise listening skills, concentration and key phrases from my rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl at the Zoo'.
Furthermore these phrases expose children to the present continuous in an authentic context:
E.g. Simon says, crocodiles are snoozing!
(all children pretend to snooze like crocodiles)
Simon says, wolves are howling!
(all children howl like wolves)
However if the teacher omits 'Simon Says', they must stand still. If a child does the action, then they are out.
I like to play a few practice rounds first to make sure the children have got the hang of the game.
The cards measure 15cm x 15cm and can be out into a foam dice. The teacher rolls the dice and gives the instruction.
Alternatively print out the cards in a smaller size and use as instruction cards in your hand.

TIP: the cards can also be used for charades! A child chooses a card, does the action and the class has guess what it is.
