Motivate children to go on an autumnal walk with this Brown Owl's spotter's list!This activity can be done near your school or home, in a forest, town or park. All you need is to print the sheet and take a pencil with you. If you spot something on the list, tick it off/cross it out/circle it.How many objects can you find? Can you find the TOP SPOT? This game is great fun, highly motivating and helps to consolidate autumn vocabulary. It also improves reading, listening and speaking skills.How to play:1) Shuffle all 24 cards.2) Deal all cards to pupils in the class. Differentiation: some children get two cards. 3) The player with the first card starts: "I have got the first card. Who has got the acorn?"4) The child with the acorn is up next: "I have got the acorn. Practise key autumn vocabulary with these differentiated wordmats.The wordmats can be used in lots of different ways:1) I spy with my little eye … a squirrel! (children point at the squirrel or place their rubber on it, for example).  This can also be done as pairwork.2) colour dictation - I spy with my little eye … a brown acorn!3) bingo - each child chooses three pictures and places something on them, e.g. counters/glass nuggets.  The teacher draws the picture cards at random and once their three have been called, the children shout 'Bingo!'.This can also be played in groups with a bingo master for each group.4) hide the wordcards / flashcards around the room and the children label the pictures themselves = copy-writingDifferentiation: they use a pencil to write the words how they think they are spelt and then find the word cards in the room to check their work.If you want to spend more time on the topic of autumn, I also have games to consolidate the key words, an autumn poem and story walk.  Have fun learning English with Brown Owl!

I come out at night.Solution: I am a bat!Children can test their knowledge of 15 autumn words, whilst also practising reading, speaking & listening skills.Variation 1: The teacher reads the clues one by one to the class.    Variation 2: Partner/group work: A quiz master reads the clues one by one. How fast can your partner/the children guess the word? The first to guess wins the card.N.B.
