A set of cards "Topics" for preparing for the oral part of the exam includes 132 topics for discussion of various complexity (from family, hobbies and animals to social problems, environmental protection, alternative medicine and crime) and is suitable for students of different ages and levels.
How to use:
Speaking. The student pulls out a card and talks about the appropriate topic.
Option for large groups. Divide the children into mini groups of 3-4 people, they pull out cards with the necessary topics. Set the time limit (1 minute), the first student speaks on a given topic, when the time is up the others discuss what they have heard, express their opinion (agree / disagree, pros / cons, their own experience, etc.) and add their ideas. Then, during the next minute, another student speaks on the next topic, etc. They will get better and better every time they practice this activity.
Students make up mind maps with keywords and phrases, come up with associations to the main topic that can be used during the speech.
In pairs, they compose questions on the topic, anticipating those that may be asked at the exam, and then make up dialogues with them.
Writing — creative writing. Students write letters or stories on a given topic.
To make it easier for the students to start a monologue (or a written story), they can use the picture, naming or describing objects, gradually revealing the topic or expressing their opinion or experience.
In addition, the teacher can always specify the topic (What's your favourite...? Tell about your… What is your personal opinion about...? etc.) or ask follow-up questions to direct the answer in the right direction.
