Randomly select pupils for groupwork, partnerwork or even Secret Santa with the help of this handy template.

Copy/Print the template in the number of participants. Write their names into the respective frames. Cut the pieces accordingly, fold them and place them in a box.

One volunteer/pupil now draws the respective number of names for a group, a team or the partners.

If you are doing Secret Santa, on person each draws a name. Mind that pupils don't draw their own names. From experience, I would recommend that the last four to five pupils draw their slips of paper at the same time so that those last pupils can draw once more if one of them draws their own name; otherwise the whole process might have to be repeated if the very last pupil draws her - or himself.

Make sure to find some common ground regarding the guidelines for Secret Santa. Decide a maximum budget or a topic, such as used books only, crafted gifts, a special theme, aso.

Personally, I prefer doing a DIY-Secret Santa. Usually, the pupils are hesitantin the beginning, but, eventually, when the gifts given, joy and happiness prevail. It's always great to see for pupils and teachers alike what great ideas and hidden talents went into those oftentimes very personal gifts.
