ESL EFL TESOL ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS ENGLISH ADVANCED BEGINNER ENGLISH SPEAKING ACTIVITIES INTERMEDIATE ENGLISH SPEAKING ACTIVITIES 100 ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS Students often find speaking quite challenging in English class. They find it really useful to engage with activities that require them to reproduce language they are already familiar with, be creative with that language in order to produce new language, and also enable them to engage with entirely new language. This set features 100 conversation starters / speaking prompts in question format, featuring a broad range of language and grammar points. The CEFR level is roughly A2-B1. The set includes a reference sheet with all the language featured in the set, and a planning sheet. The activity works well as a spontaneous speaking activity, and students also benefit from a more focused approach, where they can research and plan more detailed and complex responses as their competence and skills develop. The set works equally well as writing prompts.Students may not have formally covered all the language and grammar featured , as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also actively learning it. Encourage students to look for cues and prompts in the questions themselves, and this enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to use it creatively in their responses.Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. Remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters and prompts, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to continue the conversation. The starters broadly address the following themes:personal information; family & routines at home; hobbies & free time; likes & dislikes; local & home environment; food & drink; school & studies; sport & healthy living; countries & languages; weather & seasonsTry this freebie:10 ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIEThe Lively Learning Classroom offers a wide range of English resources, including special offer bundles and freebies.Files are non-editable in a zipped format.
