I understand you have been waiting for the last day of school and the first day of summer for weeks, maybe even months. I once even started checking off student contact days on Labor Day weekend. All you want to do is sleep in, go for a walk, read that book that has been laying by your bedside, call your friends and take that long deserved vacation. The last thing you probably want to hear is to hold off on all of this for just a liiiittle bit longer when you are so close to the end.
Let me try to make my case. This is my third summer break in the US, a summer break of 10 weeks, for some school districts even 12. Either way it is a long time. You have just gotten out of the go-go-go-craziness of the end of the school year. All you desire now is for everything to stop and for you to just close your eyes and listen to the silence around you. Sounds wonderful. I am with you. However, you are asking your body and mind to do a complete 180 from tapping your feet in the line of the copy room to swinging in the hammock reading a book without a care in world.
