PICTURE AND READING COMPREHENSION – SPRING

What’s true and what’s not?

The task is to look at the picture on the card, read the English sentences next to the picture, and then choose the sentences that are true. Most of the sentences describe what is seen in the picture (e.g. I see a large, green beetle on a small rock. There’s also a tiny ladybug. It’s black and red.), but a few sentences are based on general knowledge (e.g. This must be spring. – picture of a green tree with pink blossoms; therefore the sentence is true).

The cards may have one true statement, more than one true statement, or may not have any true statements at all.

The worksheets included are based on the same principle as the cards.

The cards and worksheets are available in both American and British English (has vs. has got, ladybug vs. ladybird, colorful vs. colourful, etc.)

 

The cards and worksheets help students practice:

• spring vocabulary – weather (rainbow, sun, rain, wind, lightning, thunder…), spring nature (flower, tree, grass, blossom, puddle, nest…), animals (bird, bee, ladybug/ladybird, beetle, ant, worm, baby animals…), clothes (rain boots/wellies, raincoat, umbrella), gardening (to plant, pot, dirt, seeds, watering can, hat, gloves…), cleaning (to clean, mop, bucket, gloves, garbage/rubbish…), spring holiday (3 cards - April Fools’ Day, Easter, Mother’s Day), colors, numbers

• verbs can, have, be in positive and negative sentences

• contractions (can’t vs. cannot etc.)

 

This teaching material includes:

• 30 cards

• 3 worksheets – each worksheet includes four pictures with six sentences. Students who need an additional challenge can come up with their own sentences for the given picture (true or false).

• answer key – a table of all cards in which true statements are marked.
