What’s true and what’s not?

The task is to look at the picture on the card, read the English sentences next to the picture, and then choose the sentences that are true. Most of the sentences describe what is seen in the picture (e.g. This is a sandwich. I see tomatoes and lettuce. I don’t see any ham.), but a few sentences are based on general knowledge (e.g. This animal cannot jump – picture of a kangaroo, therefore the sentence is not true).

The cards may have one true statement, more than one true statement, or may not have any true statements at all.

The worksheets included are based on the same principle as the cards.

The cards and worksheets are available in both American and British English (color vs. colour, has vs. has got, pants vs. trousers etc.)

The cards and worksheets help students practice:

• vocabulary: numbers, colors, weather, food, animals, household items

• there is, there are

• verbs can, have, be in positive and negative sentences

• contractions (can’t vs. cannot etc.)

This teaching material includes:

• 30 cards – 6 cards with animals, 3 cards with children, 2 cards with weather, 3 cards with buildings, 5 cards with everyday household items, 7 cards with food, 4 cards with school supplies

• 4 worksheets – each worksheet includes four pictures with six sentences. Students who need an additional challenge can come up with their own sentences for the given picture (true or false).

• answer key – a table of all cards in which true statements are marked.
