BINGO is a great game to practise and consolidate vocabulary.
It can be played as a class or in small groups with a quizmaster.
I have included a set of picture/word cards for the quizmaster to draw at random. If you print two sets, they double up as a game of pairs too.
If someone gets three pictures in a row, they shout LINE!
If they get all nine pictures, they shout BINGO!
I like to embed each word in a sentence so that the children are exposed to as much language as possible. E.g. Autumn leaves are falling down.
In fact, the vocabulary in this game also comes up in my 'Brown Owl's Autumn' poem. You can take lines directly from it: e.g. Fog is hanging in the air. Little squirrels are collecting food.
You can even have a pupil take on the role of quizmaster and come up with their own sentences. This is a great method to encourage authentic use of language and allow children to experiment with the language they know.
