Simon Says is a popular total physical game that helps children to internalise language by connecting it to an action.Furthermore, they have to listen carefully to see if they should do the action or not.For example, if the teacher says: "Simon says, you are eating an ice cream", the children should depict this with an action. If however, the teacher only says: "You are eating an ice cream!", the children should stand still. Anyone who does the action is out and has to sit down. Before playing the game, practise the language and actions with the children. The game cards also have pictures on them, which aid comprehension.Once children get the hang of the game, a pupil can come out and be a teacher clone. The game can also be played in small groups. The vocabulary I have chosen for this summer edition comes up in my rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl at the Seashore'.If you would like to know more about my series of Brown Owl rhyming picture books, please visit: readandrhyme.atI hope you have fun reading, rhyming & learning English with Brown Owl!

Learn key summer vocabulary beginning with the letter 's'.There are four versions avaiable: full colour, black and white, missing vowels, missing words. These wordmats can be used in lots of different ways1) I spy with my little eye … a sandcastle! (children point at the sandcastle or place their rubber on it, for example). This can also be done as pairwork.2) colour dictation - I spy with my little eye … green sunglasses!3) bingo - each child chooses three pictures and places something on them, e.g. counters/glass nuggets. The teacher draws the picture cards at random and once their three have been called, the children shout 'Bingo!'.TIP: This can also be played in groups with a bingo master for each group. 4) running dictation - flashcards are placed around the room. The children them, memorise the word and write it down on the sheet at their desk.5) copy writing - hide the wordcards / flashcards around the room and the children label the pictures as they find themHave fun reading and rhyming with Brown Owl!Key words from the rhyming picture book 'Brown Owl at the Seashore' by Rachel Schmidlechner and Nadja Grace Bodner. For more information about my series of rhyming picture books, please visit: readandrhyme.at
