GENERAL KNOWLEDGE EUROPE QUIZZES 80 MULTIPLE-CHOICE / TRUE OR FALSE QUESTIONS IN ENGLISH IDEAL FOR CROSS-CURRICULAR LEARNING IN ENGLISH CLASS
Students can broaden and develop their knowledge of Europe, whilst simultaneously improving their English language skills, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The quizzes work well as a whole-group team quiz, pair or small-group activities, and are also ideal as bell ringers / starters. The quiz cards are numbered, but they don’t have to be asked in numerical order.
The quizzes are for older students, who have a more developed understanding, knowledge and awareness of the world. Some responses will be generally well-known to students, others less so, as the questions range from basic general knowledge to more specialised factual knowledge. This ensures that the activity is equally about reflecting on what students know, as it is about what they can learn. In this way, the quizzes aim not only to consolidate existing knowledge, but also to enable students to learn more about Europe. The multiple-choice / true or false questioning format is ideal for this. The questions and answers also provide a comprehensive framework for further exploration of Europe, which both broadens and enriches the learning experience. The CEFR level is roughly A2-B2.
Give students several opportunities over the school year to play the quizzes. The quiz opens with general questions about Europe, and then moves on to questions about a range of individual European countries. It’s useful to screen a world map before playing for the first time so that students can visualise the location of Europe in relation to the other world continents, as well as the location of individual countries within Europe, and in relation to each other. This gives students a real-world context to their learning.
There are 80 questions across two challenges in the set:
= Challenge 1: 56 multiple-choice questions, with four response options to choose from. The correct response is in capital letters.
= Challenge 2: 24 questions in true / false format. Where the answer is false, students should additionally give the correct response. Some of these questions align with the topics / themes in Challenge 1, but some address entirely different ones. Playing this challenge after Challenge 1 can help maximise opportunity for learning.
The questions address and topics such as: music and the Arts; daily life; famous figures; geography; history; landmarks; language and linguistics; literature; politics; science; social history; society
Laminate the cards if you can - they are easier to manipulate, and remain in excellent condition for years, so that they can be used many times.
