This resource contains a board with 30 numbered squares and 30 cards featuring gapped sentences about animals. Students must complete the sentences using either the comparative or the superlative form of the adjective in brackets.

The game can be played in two ways:

1. Traditional board game:

Students play with counters and a die. On their turn, each student rolls the die and moves their counter to the corresponding square. They then select the card for that square and complete the sentence using the appropriate comparative or superlative form of the adjective in brackets.

2. Adapted “Kaboom” style game:

For this version, you will need: ice lolly sticks, permanent markers or stickers to write numbers and words, a timer, and a container such as a pencil pot, glass, cup, or small bucket. First, write the numbers and words on the sticks (or cut and glue the words onto them). Then, place all the sticks in the container.

The game can be played in pairs or teams. On their turn, each student takes a stick from the pot and completes the sentence corresponding to that number. Additional special sticks make the game more exciting:

• “Boom” – the student must return all the sticks they have collected to the pot.
• “Super Boom” – both teams return all sticks to the pot, and the game restarts.
• “Steal 1” – the student steals a stick from the opposing team.
• “Exchange” – both teams swap a stick.
• “Bonus” – the team keeps the stick and may take another turn.
• “Miss a turn” – the team loses their next turn.

The winner is the team or player who has collected the most sticks when time runs out. For a more challenging version, you can also add up the point values written on the sticks. The team with the highest total points wins.
