With this material you will work on Velázquez and the concept of texture. In addition, you will also be able to analyze the lights and shadows in objects. It is a very complete and fun unit. The following activities are proposed:

• Author biography. You can use the tab that appears to complete his most important works and relevant events in his life. They can also do a free format lapbook as a complementary task.
• Theory about the different types of textures and sheet to practice. To continue practicing the textures, you must choose some of the textures you worked on in the previous sheet and capture them in the suit and background of Velázquez's painting The Jester the Cousin.
• We are going to use the Old Woman Frying Eggs painting to imagine a different background using textures and imagined landscapes.
• Portrait of the Count-Duke of Olivares: To make this painting, the background of the leaf is painted, obtaining different textures with tempera paints and other elements such as sponges, leaves, scouring pads...Then, using wax or markers, they paint the figures, cut them out and glue them.
• In their drawing pad, using tempera paints or soft crayons, they will create this night landscape. You can print the Menina model and then cut out and paste.
• They are going to draw on a canvas a large, simple Menina, similar to the one in the images. Then they will fill the background, hair and face with tempera. To add texture to the painting they are going to glue fabrics of different colors. It looks great!!
• Cards to work with shadows on objects, theory and practice. Use the templates to make a diorama in a paper box. It will look like a museum room. Complete this unit with the author's large-sized paintings and make a great exhibition.
