These 4 simple rhymes can help structure English lessons with young learners:
1) Finding the class mascot (Brown Owl hand puppet)
I hide the puppet in the room. We chant the rhyme together. Once they can see Brown Owl, they point at him.
Brown Owl, Brown Owl, where are you today?
Are you ready to learn? Are you ready to play?
2) Who can Brown Owl sit with today?
Next we use the counting-out rhyme. All children who would like to have Brown Owl sit on their desk raise their hands.
Brown Owl, Brown Owl, sitting in a tree,
Brown Owl, Brown Owl, please pick me!
Tu whit tu whoo! Tu whit tu whoo!
I choose you!
3) How is Brown Owl feeling today?
Brown Owl, Brown Owl, how are you today?
Are you happy, are you sad? Are you tired, are you mad?
Brown Owl, Brown Owl, how are you today?
N.B: Brown Owl can be substituted with the name of a pupil.
4) A rhyme to end the lesson:
Brown Owl, Brown Owl, it's time to say bye-bye!
Brown Owl, Brown Owl, it's time for you to fly!
Brown Owl flies around the room and the children can wave bye-bye to him.
I hope you have fun reading and rhyming with Brown Owl!
