Start your English lessons this year with my back-to-school rhyme! It sets a positive tone for the year to come, practises pronunciation and intonation AND includes some of your favourite characters from the ‘Read and Rhyme with Brown Owl’ picture books.

How would I use the rhyme?

First, I would slowly reveal the illustration and get the kids talking about what they can see.

Then I would read the rhyme accompanied by lots of actions to aid comprehension (see my Instagram reels @read.and.rhyme.with.brown.owl).

Next, I would encourage the kids to do the actions too and join in with the text if they want to.

For some extra repetition practice I would repeat it faster/slower/with silly voices etc.

You could even do a quick comprehension check quiz: What’s ‘Schuljahr’ in English? What’s ‘good luck’? Etc.

If you'd like your pupils to have their own copy, I've included an A4 colouring page for them too.
