Two different running dictation activities (in Word format) to practice and reinforce questions in the Past Simple tense. Students should already know how to form questions in the Past Simple before completing the activity.

Simply cut the running dictation into separate strips and hang them up around the classroom or outside. The first question, however, should be written on the board for the students to copy. They then need to find the corresponding answer, memorize it and write it down in their notebooks. The dialogue consists of a total of 8–9 questions. Students have completed the activity once they reach the answer marked with a smiley face.

Takes about 20 minutes to complete.

• There are two different dialogues. Print each dialogue on a different colored sheet of paper and divide the class into two groups. Afterwards, students can read their dialogue aloud to the person sitting next to them.

• Then, students should memorize one of the dialogues and perform it from memory to help reinforce the structure of Past Simple questions.
