Descripción

This resource contains a board with 30 numbered squares and 30 cards with sentences containing gaps to complete using the present perfect simple.

An interactive version is also included, allowing students to play using electronic devices.

Traditional Board Game Version

The game can be played as a classic board game using counters and a dice. Students take turns to roll the dice and move their counter to the corresponding square. They then pick the matching card and conjugate the verb in brackets using the present perfect simple. The first player to reach square 30 is the winner.

Adapted Version

The game can also be adapted using simple classroom materials: popsicle sticks, permanent markers or stickers, a timer, and a container (e.g. pencil pot, glass, cup, or small bucket).

  1. Write the numbers and words on the popsicle sticks, or cut and glue the words onto them.
  2. Place all the sticks in the container.

Students can play in pairs or teams. On their turn, each student draws a stick from the container and either says the word or forms a sentence corresponding to that number.

To make the game more entertaining, include special sticks:

  • “Boom” – the student must return all sticks they have collected to the pot.
  • “Boom” – both teams return all sticks to the pot and the game starts again.
  • “Steal 1” – the student takes a stick from the opposing team.
  • “Exchange” – both teams swap a stick.
  • “Bonus” – the team keeps the stick and takes another turn.
  • “Miss a turn” – the team misses their next turn.

The winner is the player or team that has collected the most sticks when time runs out.

For an extra challenge, you can assign points to the numbers on the sticks. The winner is then the team with the highest total points.
