This cute rhyme resource combines English & Art skills and is perfect for Valentine's Day. In fact, there's even a bit of Maths in there too as the heart craft is based on symmetry.Children can learn the rhyme off by heart and then create a picture to give to a loved one as a present on Valentine's Day.The language structure in the rhyme is repetitive, which helps children to remember it faster. It also revises colours:Roses are red,Violets are blue,Owls are brownAnd I love you!I've included differentiated rhyme templates, as well as full instructions on how to make the hearts.Level 1: One line to read (I love you!)Level 2: The whole poem.Level 3: Children write the poem by handI've also included a poster for the English corner. What will your pupils learn during this lesson? They'll expand their vocabulary and learn to recite a rhyme. They'll follow instructions for the craft. They'll develop their creativity and fine motor skills. They'll engage with the topic of love and reflect on love in their lives.I hope you have fun reading, rhyming & crafting with Brown Owl!For more information about Brown Owl, the main character in my 'Read and Rhyme with Brown Owl' series of picture books, please visit my website: readandrhyme.at

Playing a round of 'I have got ... Who has got ... ?' helps children to remember the order of the months in English. It also practises reading, speaking and listening skills, as they have to listen out for the picture on their game card and read the question out loud that is on it.HOW TO PLAY:Shuffle the cards and hand out one to each player. The player with the first card begins:I have got the first card. Who has got the snowman? The player with the snowman card continues.I have got the snowman. Who has got January? The player with the January card continues. I have got January. Who has got the heart? The game continues until you reach December. This is the last card.Once everyone has got the hang of it, you can time the round and see if they can improve their speed, whilst still maintainin fluency and clear speaking. If you'd like to spend more time on the topic, check out my other games & worksheets based on the months.I hope you have fun reading, rhyming and teaching English with Brown Owl!

BINGO is a great game to practise and consolidate vocabulary. It can be played as a class or in small groups with a quizmaster.I have included a set of picture/word cards for the quizmaster to draw at random. If you print two sets, they double up as a game of pairs too.If someone gets three pictures in a row, they shout LINE!If they get all nine pictures, they shout BINGO!I like to embed each word in a sentence so that the children are exposed to as much language as possible. E.g. Autumn leaves are falling down.In fact, the vocabulary in this game also comes up in my 'Brown Owl's Autumn' poem. You can take lines directly from it: e.g. Fog is hanging in the air. Little squirrels are collecting food. You can even have a pupil take on the role of quizmaster and come up with their own sentences. This is a great method to encourage authentic use of language and allow children to experiment with the language they know.I hope you have fun teaching English with Brown Owl!
