This bundle of documents provides materials for fostering language acquisition in biology lessons by supporting vocabulary training on the topic “Comparing Groups of Vertebrates”. It contains a list of 12 vocabulary words related to this topic as well as their explanations.
Furthermore, this bundle contains 12 vocabulary cards matching the vocabulary list. These cards facilitate student-centered and differentiated language support. The PowerPoint format of this document makes it easy to print the cards in different sizes.
While working on the puzzle “Classes of Vertebrates”, students don’t just practice the names of 36 vertebrates, but they also train their ability to categorize these animals and to sort them into their respective classes of vertebrates.
Furthermore, the game “Two Out of Three” invites students to develop their ability to find points of comparison and to express similarities and differences between entities. To make this game useable for students, simply print the PDF document included here double-sided on thick paper. This enables your students to cut out the cards and learn with them.
Thus, in this unit, special attention is given to the language skills needed for comparing entities. A worksheet contains five exercises on comparisons. Besides addressing different approaches to comparing living beings, objects, processes or facts (Venn diagram, table, text), it focusses the students' attention on the language aspect of composing comparisons.
Solutions for all tasks are included in this bundle.
