Descripción

This resource includes a board with 30 numbered squares and 30 cards containing gapped sentences related to household chores. Students must complete each sentence using either the present simple or the present continuous form of the verbs in brackets.

An interactive version is also available for use on electronic devices.

The game can be played in two ways:

1. Traditional board game

Students play in turns, using counters and dice. They roll the dice, move their counter to the corresponding square, and then choose a card. They must complete the sentence with the correct form of the verb in brackets (present simple or present continuous).

2. “Kaboom” style game

This version requires popsicle sticks, permanent markers or stickers, a timer, and a container (such as a pencil pot, cup, or small bucket). Write or attach the numbers and words onto the sticks, then place them in the container.

Students play in pairs or teams, taking turns to draw a stick. They must say the word or complete the sentence corresponding to that number. In addition to numbered sticks, include the following action sticks to make the game more engaging:

  • Boom – The student returns all their sticks to the pot.
  • Super Boom – Both teams return all their sticks, and the game restarts.
  • Steal 1 – A team may take one stick from the opposing team.
  • Exchange – Both teams exchange one stick.
  • Bonus – The team keeps the stick and takes another turn.
  • Miss a turn – The team loses their next turn.

The winner is the player or team with the most sticks when the time runs out. For an added challenge, teams can also total the numbers on their sticks. The winner is then the team with the highest score.
