Descripción

This resource includes a board with 30 numbers and 30 cards, each featuring affirmative sentences to be completed using the past simple form of the regular verbs given in brackets.

An interactive version is also included, which can be used on electronic devices.

On the one hand, this game can be played as a traditional board game using counters and dice. In this version, students take turns rolling the dice and moving their counters to the corresponding square. They then select the matching card and complete the sentence with the correct past simple form.

On the other hand, the game can be adapted and played following the rules of the game Kaboom. For this version, the following materials will be needed: lolly sticks, permanent markers or stickers for writing the numbers and words, a timer, and a container such as a pencil pot, glass, cup, or small bucket.

Preparation:

  1. Write the numbers and words on the lolly sticks, or cut them out and stick them onto the sticks.
  2. Place all the sticks into the container.

How to Play:

This version can be played in pairs or teams. Each student, in turn, draws a stick from the container and completes the sentence that corresponds to the number. To make the game more engaging, special instruction sticks can be added with the following rules:

  • Boom: The player must return all their collected sticks to the pot.
  • Super Boom: Both teams must return all their sticks to the pot, and the game restarts.
  • Steal 1: The player takes one stick from the opposing team.
  • Exchange: Both teams swap one stick.
  • Bonus: The team keeps the stick and takes another turn.
  • Miss a Turn: The team skips their next turn.

Winning the Game:

The winner is the team or player who has collected the most sticks when the time runs out. To increase the challenge, you can assign point values to the numbers on the sticks. The team with the highest total score at the end of the game wins.
