The aim of this card game is to practise questions and short answers using THERE IS and THERE ARE, as well as the quantifiers A, AN, SOME, and ANY, with vocabulary related to food and drinks.

This game is a version of the classic card game "Go Fish", in which students try to find two identical cards and collect as many pairs as possible.

The teacher should print two copies of the resource. The cards are shuffled and then dealt so that each student has five cards (seven in small groups and three in larger groups). The remaining cards are placed face down in a pile in the middle of the table.

Students take turns playing the game. One by one, each student asks another classmate if they have a particular card, using the question written on the card (e.g., “Is there any butter in the fridge?”). If the person being asked has the matching card, they must respond with the appropriate short answer (e.g., “Yes, there is.”) and give it to the student who asked the question. If the person does not have the card, they will respond with a negative short answer (e.g., “No, there isn’t.”). The other classmates will say “Go Fish,” and the student who asked the question must take a card from the pile.

The game continues until all the cards have been taken, and the student with the most pairs at the end is the winner.
