Hallöchen! I am @lfeprofe and here is an Essential Toolkit 🧰📚🌐 to master a Foreign Language - ✍ Writing Edition -:

But before getting there, let me ask you: Do you ever find it hard to put into words what you want to say (in a foreign language)? Do you ever feel frustrated about how you are perceived and/or understood? Well, I do 🫣. 

    📌 Communication is a bloody lot! First of all [in the communication process] we (the senders 💬) have to find the right code (language, form, style, culture) to send the message. This involves a lot of decision-making and even more if we are using an L2.

    📌 Then we hope the message will survive the contextual noise 🎧, which can be quite limiting.

    📌 Finally, we have to see how the recipient 🤷 of the message interacts and filters the information; to then re-engage with any feedback. 

It's crazy! So be gentle with yourself. We can all feel like we don't know how to share the depth of our thoughts out loud.

To help you with this communication process, I have created an Essential Toolkit 🧰📚🌐 Mastering a Foreign Language (✍ Writing Edition). Here we go: 

    1️⃣ DeepL Translate and Write ➡ Have you ever found translation a bit tricky? Because I did 😪 ☝ DeepL Translator gives really accurate translations, and I love it. DeepL Write (currently available in English and German) can offer you varied expressions and structures to fuel your creativity (or better match your style, etc.).

    2️⃣ Grammarly (ProWritingAid, etc.) ➡ They are my virtual editor! These plugins integrate seamlessly into your browser or word processor and provide real-time feedback. That's gold to me.

    3️⃣ Dictionary of Synonyms 📖 ➡ Every language I know has a huge pool of synonyms, and checking them helps us discover different connotations of words and phrases. A quick tip: Cross-reference with a general dictionary to fully understand the use and context of each word.

    4️⃣. ChatGPT - New! ➡  If you have any linguistic curiosity or doubts, honestly, give Chat GPT a try! It is not flawless (by any means) but it can provide direct and specific insights, more direct and specific than a Google search. Just use your media literacy skills and double-check the information.
