How can I use this resource?

• Look at the example syllabus that I used in my 6th grade Science classroom and get some ideas.

• Then download the middle school Science syllabus template word document template and fill in or delete [the fields in italic brackets] with your own content.

• You may want to check in with your middle school colleagues on grading policies like grading or homework or late work before putting any language about it in your science class syllabus. 

• Make sure that you can keep the expectations you are setting for your class and for yourself. For me, I was very clear on “no retakes” and in 3 years of teaching 6th grade Science only made 2 exceptions. 

• When you are done filling out your syllabus template in word, you export the file as a PDF, print it, copy it and share it with your middle school learners.
