Spiel für den Englischunterricht cootie catcher English game (Himmel und Hölle)
ESL / English game for primary school
Heaven and Hell is a finger game known worldwide. Regionally it is also called Frog, Pepper and Salt or Schnipp Schnapp. My favorite version is “Cootie Catcher“ though - lice catching! However, those games are especially fun for young learners, as it allows kids to repeat their knowledge about early bloomers in an entertaining way.
How to play:
It takes two players. Player A takes the game, but keeps it closed. Player B names a number between 1 and 10 - in this number player A moves the Cootie Catcher back and forth and then opens it.
Four pictures will appear now.
Player B chooses one of the pictures and names the term for it. Whether it is true can be checked by opening the game.
Players take turns and play until all words have been named. Fields that were already named may not be taken for the rest of the game. You can also ask your learners to give points or to note down their vocabulary first and then check with the help of the game.
For differentiation, the following can be asked in addition to the word: genus, spelling (have word dictated), associations,
any special features, etc..
I wish you and your students a lot of fun with this lovely game!
Many kind regards,
Cindy Seidler
