Science sentence starters help language learners in your middle school science classroom participate in discussion and write assignments. When you have the Science sentence starters and sentence builders visible on the wall in your classroom, you will notice that not only your language learners, but all students will reference the sentence starter words during verbal or written science assignments.
The sentence builders worksheets or slides can be used as posters or as a reference guide for students in their folders. Use the science sentence starters template to create your own sentence builders poster depending on your specific classroom content.
When I was introduced to sentence starters in my middle school science classroom, it changed my entire instruction and mindset: from teaching content vs teaching language to teaching content while teaching language.
The learning outcomes for my middle schoolers were significant. Even with no language learners in the group, sentence builders or sentence starter words will support literacy skills of your learners.
