Image Lessons.

There is a common saying, ‘You can’t judge a book by its cover.’ It’s often the case that we make assumptions about people very quickly. These assumptions are often based on what we see, past experiences or even the way images and people are portrayed through the media.

This lesson is an attempt to challenge students’ perceptions and assumptions and to build a greater sense of empathy and understanding of the way our lives and the lives of others can take unexpected turns. The lesson includes a variety of discussion and conversation tasks that you can use to get students thinking and talking about the image, as well as a reading text and role play task. The final task is connected to the use of hand gestures in different cultures.

Durch diese Unterrichtseinheit sollen die SchülerInnen lernen, ihre Wahrnehmungen und Annahmen zu hinterfragen und ein größeres Verständnis für unerwartete Wendungen im Leben zu entwickeln. Das Material enthält eine Reihe von Diskussions- und Gesprächsaufgaben, die die Schüler zum Nachdenken und Sprechen anregen, sowie einen Lesetext und eine Rollenspielaufgabe. Die letzte Aufgabe bezieht sich auf den Gebrauch von Handgesten in verschiedenen Kulturen.
